Utah Pride 2019

In 2019, Intermountain Healthcare participated in the Utah Pride Festival and Parade for the first time. I had the honor of serving on the planning committee, where I collaborated with a cross-functional team to execute a successful event. I designed Intermountain’s pride logo, collaborated on our festival booth creation, led our entry in the parade, and managed the medical staff for the festival. As a team, we worked tirelessly to help the LGBTQ+ community know that we are here for them.

Why Pride?

The Healthy People 2020 initiative lists the LGBTQ+ community as one that experiences serious health disparities. LGBTQ+ people are more likely to have mental health issues, experience substance use disorder, and die by suicide than their cisgender, heterosexual peers. They are also at a higher risk of contracting HIV and other sexually transmitted infections and less likely to seek the healthcare they need (like cancer screenings and annual wellness visits). They are also less likely to feel welcome in a healthcare environment.

Intermountain Healthcare cares for all members of our community. As the largest health system – and the largest private employer – in the state of Utah, Intermountain needs to be a safe place for LGBTQ+ people to access care. Part of that effort is publicly supporting communities with health disparities and celebrate what makes them unique.

Intermountain Healthcare’s fantastic video team created this ad to promote the organization’s goal of addressing health disparities in Utah’s LGBTQ+ community. It played before, during, and after Utah Pride.

Spirit of Intermountain Award

We were honored and excited to represent Intermountain at our first Utah Pride. We were even more honored and humbled to receive the Spirit of Intermountain award for our work.
